A Diversity of Wool

Devin Helmen

Saturday PM

Sheep create an enormous diversity of wool. In this class students will explore the range of fiber available from one species. We’ll prepare and spin wool from four breeds, showing the different characteristics of wool available from down breeds, double coated breeds, longwools, and fine wools. This will give you a taste of the variety of yarns you can make from one magical fiber-wool.

Skill Level: intermediate. Please be comfortable spinning and familiar with fiber preparation tools.

Material fee: $10 Fleece from four breeds of sheep for preparing and spinning.
