Something Old, Something New

Something Old, Something New

Judith MacKenzie

Saturday AM

When we join the world of handspinning, we become connected to a culture and a skill that has existed for many thousands of years. In this class, we’ll spin yarns that helped us survive when we lived in caves and were hunter gatherers and we’ll also spin others, like the amazing silks and cottons, that have been developed much more recently. We’ll also look at how our spinning has changed over time as new techniques, for example, knitting, has changed how we use thread and create fabrics.

Skill level: Must be able to spin a continuous thread and have a good relationship with their wheel or e-spinner

Material Fee: $15 fiber supplied
