About Us

Seascape Knit Trips, LLC

Who we are…

We are knitters, instructors, and the founders of a partnership called Seascape Knit Trips through which we organize creative knitting journeys and retreats. We are delighted to have been entrusted with the future of Red Alder. We think of this event as a journey, too — a figurative journey where we explore new skills and new crafts in the company of inspiring friends. The warmth and joy we find at Red Alder are the same emotions we strive to cultivate in all of our events.

It is our goal to keep a steady hand at the helm here at Red Alder, and while we will strive to improve where we can, we will keep the ship on course. The name, nature, and location of the event will remain the same. If you have feedback about what you’d like to see here or on any of our other Seascape adventures, we’d love to hear from you at [email protected].

We are grateful to everyone who has put so much into Red Alder over the course of so many years. We look forward to gathering with you again next year and in the years to come.

Amy Snell

Amy Snell is a knitting instructor and designer with an eye for the unusual or unusually captivating. She enjoys teaching techniques and stitch patterns that bring color, contrast, geometry, and texture into knitting in new or interesting ways.

Whether teaching locally in the San Francisco Bay area or for knitting guilds and events nationwide, Amy loves to help other knitters explore new techniques and expand the way they think about their knitting. Her goal is to make complex concepts approachable for all knitters, while sharing tips that improve your process whether you’ve been knitting for several weeks or several decades.

Amy’s work has appeared in numerous books and periodicals including Cast OnInterweave KnitsKnotions, I Love Knitting  and numerous pattern collections. She frequently shares tips and tricks on her website, www.DeviousKnitter.com, and can be found as @DeviousKnitter on social media.

Karen Heitkamp

Karen Heitkamp has enjoyed working in various art forms over the course of her lifetime and  currently has a special focus in the fields of resin artistry and alcohol inks.  Transforming and elevating everyday items into functional and beautiful art has become Karen’s passion, and she looks forward to introducing her students to her world of color and form.

Resin is a wonderful medium that easily adds color and depth to a wide variety of materials. Alcohol inks can be used with resin or by themselves to create fantastical shapes, colors, and movement. Karen’s special focus is the fascinating flow and mixing of colors obtainable while working  resin or ink with heat, air, tools, and gravity.

She has created a wide variety of beautiful items for weddings, corporate events, vacation homes, gifts, and even dog show events. Karen can be found on instagram @resinartbykaren

Statement on Inclusion

We seek to create environments at our events where all people can thrive and succeed, feel they are valued, and know their presence is wanted. We encourage all participants at our events to work to understand each other and move beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity.

We will not tolerate racism, hate speech, discrimination, bullying, exclusion, disrespect, prejudice, harassment, or abuse at our events and reserve the right to take appropriate actions, including but not limited to removing any person who engages in these behaviors from our events.
