Saturday All Day
Come and enjoy a fun day of wet-felting as you create a felt bird pod which is sure to be a hit with your feathered friends. The bird pod will be made of naturally water repellant Bergschaf wool. Small birds such as Wrens, Nuthatches, and Chickadees will use them for shelter and/or nesting.
This is a great introduction to 3D felting, employing the same techniques used in making hats, bags, slippers, etc. Watch as our flat felt pieces become three-dimensional.
Skill level: Suitable for all levels. Some standing involved. We will be rolling our felt which requires some physical exertion. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
Material Fee: $35
Wool batts for bird pod base, colorful Merino wool tops for surface decoration, embellishing fibers, written instructions, and plastic resist/pattern material.
Student Supplies:
- 2-3 bath size towels.
- A plastic bucket for water (a beach pail is ideal).
- Your favorite soap for felting (bar of olive oil soap, or small bottle of mild dish soap such as blue Dawn).
- A laundry sprinkler or Ballbrause sprinkler if you have one (I will have several to share if not).
- Bubble wrap (small bubbles): 2 ft. wide x 6 ft. length (available in the packing supplies section of Home Depot, WalMart, etc. If you have trouble finding 2’ wide bubble wrap, just duct tape narrower widths together. Tape on the smooth side).
- Sharp pointy scissors.
- A wooden spoon for shaping the bird pod.
- Pool noodle for rolling your felt. You will only need half the length of the pool noodle, so you and a friend may wish to snip the pool noodle in two.
- Old pantyhose or an old t-shirt which can be cut up (used to tie your bundle to secure for rolling the felt).
- Optional: Any felting tools you may have such as a Palm Washboard, etc.
Homework: None
